This year we have so much to be greatful for...our health, my job, Brady's school, our family, our friends and our home. Thanksgiving was great this year. We went back to NY to stay with my parents for a nice long weekend and we had a great time. I was able to catch up with old high school friends and Brady was able to be entertained by my father, the entire time we were there. It's always a great feeling going back "home" for the holidays. We arrived on Wed. night and I helped my mom cook some new recipes, which we managed to burn and destroy, but it was fun. After that, I left the kitchen...I'm not the cooking type, but I do love to make some great desserts:-)
On Thursday, my dad, Brady and I all went to volunteer for the Thanksgiving dinner the Knights of Columbus put on every year for anyone- those who have no place to go, the elderly and the homeless. We arrived at 8:00, way too early, so we fueled up on coffee and I went back around noon to help out. It was an amazing experience. Every year I always mention that I'd like to do something on Thanksgiving...but it's just one of those things that I never get around to doing. Can you tell I'm trying to turn over a new leaf this year?! :-)
I made it back in time for our family Thanksgiving dinner and my mom did a great job. The entire table was filled to its capacity and the food was good (we chucked the burnt dish!). Brady's Thanksgiving dinner consisted of a ham sandwich and grapes. Nice, huh? Oh and he did eat a raw pepper, so that was something at least. But the best part was the desserts! As a kid, I vividly remember my mom baking all the time. She'd make homemade pies and crusts from scratch (not me at all...I prefer the Giant frozen pie crust!), and this year she made Caramel cheesecake, Sweet Potato Pie, Cranberry Chocolate Torte, and something else that I can't remember, but it all was good!
Other than relaxing, I helped my dad rake the leaves and Brady had a blast jumping in the pile. Here's a few pics of him...I don't have any Thanksgiving pics yet...but I'll add them in once I get my hands on them!
p.s. look at the ingenious way we used to collect leaves...the kitchen garbage can...but it worked:-)

So glad you had a great Thanksgiving Sarah!
I love that you volunteered to help serve dinner.... I too, always say I want to do that, and I'm mad at myself that this year we didn't do that when there was no family around - it really would have been a perfect year to do it. I'm sure they all loved seeing your smile! :)
I'm so impressed by your moms desserts! (and you ARE a good cook!)
Oh thanks Renee! I loved volunteering, so much so that I almost missed my mom's Thanksgiving dinner, but then I wouldn't have heard the end of it:-)
Thanks for the vote of confidence, but I really don't enjoy cooking for just myself and Brady. I think that I shine the best when I'm cooking for a crowd.
